![]() ![]() There are many memorable side missions in this category (who can forget Chadd). Do not get me wrong: I am not trying to say that these sort of missions should not be in the game. To my surprise, over half of the side missions in the game belonged to random NPCs. I decided to see how many side missions in the Borderlands 3 main campaign pertained to a main character from the series and here are my results (I did not include the Trials quests or the Circle of Slaughter Quests in this list): Character These are just a few examples, but each of these characters (and more) have multiple side quests that flesh out their characters and give personality to the characters.Īfter playing Borderlands 3 for over 250 hours, my connection to the characters feels incredibly hollow compared to how I felt after playing Borderlands 2. Marcus wants you to recover the $9 he accidentally gave to one of his customers because he is incredibly greedy. Tannis wants you to recover the ECHO logs she monologues into because she is an eridian researcher. Sir Hammerlock wants you to research the effects of injecting a chemical into varkids' morphing pods because he is a wildlife researcher. In Borderlands 2, most (if not, all) of the side quests are given by primary characters in the story (like Lilith, Mordecai, Tannis, Marcus, Scooter, Hammerlock, etc.) and the quests inform the characters' personalities. After playing Borderlands 2 religiously on the Nintendo Switch recently, I found myself thinking about how the side missions are handled in Borderlands 3.
